“There was nothing to learn on the black sands. Survive, kill, and kill again. That’s the new truth. ”
— Attributed to the Iron Tenth
The Saturnine Dreadnought is a walking tomb. A relic of iron, grief, and machine vengeance. Among all the relics of the Great Crusade, few bear such brutal grace — slabs of armour interlocking like the walls of a fortress, a single pilot entombed within, forever at war.
Painting the original Iron Hands scheme is a challenge. It’s wonderful once you get the hand of it, but it’s a steep, unforgiving learning curve.

And then comes the basing — Isstvan. The ash-choked world where brother slew brother, where the Iron Hands broke and were reforged in bitterness. Here’s the painter’s challenge: black armour, black base. Where’s the intrest?
Ash grey can lean cold; soot can burn warm. Fire becomes your ally — cinders and ash – anything to force a little colour into the scheme!
If you want to learn how to balance that razor’s edge we’ve built a complete step-by-step tutorial on the Lil’Legend Studio Patreon. You’ll find lessons on painting black armour, weathering ash bases, and mastering the invisible art of light in darkness.
The Saturnine Dreadnought is not an easy project. But then again, nothing worth remembering ever is.
