“Endurance is the truest blessing. Armour fails. Flesh withers. Resolve remains.”
— Attributed to a Plague Champion of the XIV Legion

We’ve just wrapped the first phase of a Death Guard army built from the current boxed set. The aim was to establish a strong, repeatable standard that would carry forward as the collection expands.
From the beginning, the focus was on tone control. Death Guard green can swing too clean or too saturated if handled without restraint. For this force, the armour sits in a muted olive range with controlled highlights that preserve the mass of the sculpt. At gaming distance, the shapes remain clear and readable. Up close, the surface variation keeps the finish from feeling flat.
All armour was completed across the force before moving on to trim and metallics. Working in structured passes ensures consistency between squads. The brass was aged carefully, with oxidation concentrated around joins and recesses rather than spread evenly across surfaces. Weathering was introduced only after the core volumes were resolved, allowing the sculpted detail to remain sharp.
Because this is the foundation of a growing army, the level of decay was calibrated deliberately. Future additions will need to match seamlessly. That continuity begins here.
The character models were given slightly stronger contrast and tighter edge definition to provide subtle focal points within the group. Nothing excessive — just enough hierarchy to guide the eye when the army is deployed.

Thinking About Your Own Army?
Launching a new force properly saves time and prevents drift as it grows. Establishing palette discipline and repeatable processes at the start keeps everything aligned long-term.
We take on army commissions in scheduled waves to maintain consistency and quality. If you’re planning a new project, get in touch to discuss scope and availability.
