Ordo Malleus // Segmentum Obscurus Archive
Clearance: Magenta-Level Eyes Only
Extracted from Codex Occultae: Case Study XIV, “Residual Warp-Entities Active Within Post-Heresy Black Legion Host Cells”
Designation: Thul Cathraig (likely an adopted name; etymology traced to Old Albic dialects, pre-Unification Terra). Alias: The Hollow Flame.
Allegiance: Black Legion (unconfirmed), significant iconographic overlap with Word Bearer cults
Known Manifestations: Piraeus Drift, the Khol-Torr Scar, Threefold Sanctum (destruction pending)
Threat Rating: Catastrophic // Warp-Bound // Doctrinally Infectious // Master of Possessions
Thul Cathraig (The Hollow Flame) is not a codified psyker in the sense understood by sanctioned Adepts, using rituals derived not from traditional sorcerous praxis but from pre-Imperial, warp-tainted blood rites. No formal sigils of the Changer or Deciever are apparent; his connection to the Immaterium appears wholly visceral—an unmediated communion through pain, blood sacrifice, and ancestral invocation.
His armour is obsidian-black and unmarked save for tribal inscriptions and skin-stitched trophies, bearing the ‘Fire of the Word’ upon his chest. No other association exists between Thul and the Word Bearers, with his geneseed lineage unconfirmed. Most curious is the Sarum-pattern helmet—an archaic mark associated primarily with the XIIth Legion. This, combined with field reports of self-inflicted blood rituals, suggests a possible link to the “Butcher-Seer Project” of 007.M31. This connection remains unverified due to the total loss of archival access in the Dacian Vault Fires.
Subject carries a massive two-headed stone mace, likely pre-Imperial, reinforced with adamantium bands and warp-infused runes. This weapon, referred to in warband communiqués as The Cairn-Dirge, functions both as a totemic focus and execution tool. It is known that Thul once bore the daemon-axe of the Black Legion Warlord Ixviš. The exchange remains shrouded in contradiction, but it is known that since the Khol-Torr Scar, Thul has been a high-ranking member of the Scions of Selenar.
His left hand continually weeps blood from each finger joint, a phenomenon observed across all battle zones where he manifests. This bleeding appears to be neither metabolic nor symbolic—it is the conduit by which he divines, calling upon what one transcript described as “the choir beneath the stone.”
Capture is deemed impossible. Termination protocols are not advised without full Exterminatus clearance.

I’m Welsh, so when it came to create a sorcerer for my Black Legion force I didn’t want to the prim and prissy archetype of the Thousand Sons. I wanted to create something more primal, a creature that casts runes in a cave, eats calf guts, and avoids speaking with travelling knights. I imagine Thul to be a keeper of lore – what lore that is, I have no idea.
He joined my crusade by offering the Black Axe to my Chaos lord – an offer that saw the first steps taken into damnation. Since then, Ixviš hasn’t been able to get rid of him and has become a stalwart within the Scions of Selenar warband.
I’ll have a tutorial up for his mace – there’s a lot of content up for the Black Legion already, and I don’t want to overegg that pudding. If you’d like a full tutorial, you’re going to have to sacrifice a lamb for it. Please send the offering in an envelope to Lil’Legend HQ.
