We may be few, and our enemies many. Yet so long as there remains one of us still fighting, one who still rages in the name of justice and truth, then by the Allfather, the galaxy shall yet know hope.
Ragnar Blackmane
The young king has certainly been through a metamorphosis. From the Jes Goodwin sculpt to this, Ragnar has seen play for over 20 years on the tabletop.
This rendition of him is in keeping with the Grim-Dark aesthetic of the Space Wolves we have recently painted. But what exactly is Grim Dark?
We define it principally as desaturated. The colours are drained of potency, and the miniature relies on its use of value rather than colour for contrast.
Ragnar has a muted palette, which uses cool tones to emphasis portions of the sculpt. There is also a greater emphasis on the overall atmosphere of the mature, sacrificing detail to create a greater sense of realism. This style echoes the early black and white artwork of 3rd edition.
