The Hunters of the Ragnarok Company
Grey Hunters of the Rout
Few units define the Space Wolves quite like the Grey Hunters. They sit at the heart of every Great Company — seasoned warriors who have survived long enough to temper instinct with discipline. They are not reckless Blood Claws, nor ancient Long Fangs. They are the balance point.
Under the command of Bran Redmaw, that balance shifts slightly.
Bran’s Great Company carries a reputation shaped by the curse that stalks it. There’s an edge to them. Something less controlled. The Grey Hunters who fight under his banner still hold formation, still execute their role as line infantry — but there’s a sense that the line is thinner than it should be. That tension is what makes them interesting to paint and build.

Painting Space Wolves Grey – Getting It Right
Space Wolves armour is deceptively difficult. It isn’t blue, and it isn’t grey. Push it too far in either direction and it stops reading correctly.
For this force, the armour was built from a neutral grey base with subtle blue undertones. Highlights were kept controlled and slightly desaturated to avoid the chalky finish that often creeps into Space Wolves schemes. The goal is to keep the armour looking cold and worn, not bright or stylised.
Fur, leather, and bone elements do a lot of the heavy lifting. These warmer textures break up the armour and give the models character. Without them, the scheme can feel flat very quickly.
Weathering was kept restrained. A few chips on the edges, some dust on the lower legs — enough to suggest campaign wear without turning them into a different Legion entirely. Space Wolves benefit from clarity. Too much grime and they lose their identity.
